Agency Resources
The National Wilderness Preservation System is united by a core mandate: to preserve wilderness character. The Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, and National Park Service all manage designated wilderness in accordance with the Wilderness Act of 1964. While their stewardship approaches share many common principles, each agency interprets and implements the law through its own policies, regulations, and administrative frameworks.
This page provides access to agency-specific policy documents, regulations, strategic plans, manuals, and other tools to support informed, law- and policy-aligned decision-making.
