Visit Wilderness

The Desatoya Mountains Wilderness is located in west central Nevada near Fallon.

Elevations within the Wilderness range from 5,400 feet to 9,973 feet at the top of Desatoya Peak.

The Wilderness is extremely rugged and mountainous in character. Several deeply-incised canyons are found on the west side.

Pinyon and juniper associations cover roughly half the Wilderness. Riparian vegetation, including aspen, willow and several species of berries and wildflowers, is found along perennial streams in the Wilderness. Isolated stands of mountain mahogany are found in the upper elevations, particularly on the west side of the mountains. The main ridge line is vegetated by grasses and low growing shrub species such as low sage.

Wildlife is abundant including mule deer, mountain lion, gray fox, sage grouse, golden eagle, and pika.
