Wilderness Information, Research & Education Workshop

The course will be held in-person in Silver City, NM. The registration deadline is April 2, 2024. Staff from any agency who work in Wilderness are invited to apply (see registration link below). Non-federal agencies and partners are also welcome to apply and will be selected if space allows. The Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center will notify those selected.

Cost

Participants pay their own travel costs. Lodging will be made available at or below the per diem rate, and specific information about lodging will be sent out with notification of your selection.

Audience

This workshop will focus on research application, science delivery, information, interpretation, and education of wilderness.  Topics included in this workshop will be applicable for wilderness stewards across areas of expertise. The target audience is field-level decision-makers and staff who have wilderness stewardship responsibilities or do work in wilderness.

Description

Research application, science delivery, accessibility of information, and outreach—via interpretation, and education, are topics critical to optimizing effective management and public engagement.  This workshop will focus on these topics as they apply to stewardship of National Wilderness Preservation System lands and visitor use. We will center discussion and subgroups on the value of the value of bridging communication between research and management, making use of the Wilderness Connect information portal and website. 

Prerequisites

The workshop requires completion of one online course prior to attending Foundations of Interpretation This course takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes to complete so please take the necessary time prior to the training to complete (dedicate 1+ hours).
