Unit Wilderness Workshops

Unit wilderness workshops are those offered by request at the field level at National Parks, National Forests, National Wildlife Refuges or Bureau of Land Management Field Offices.

Bureau of Land Management

Field Office (unit) workshops are 1- to 2-day sessions that address a variety of topics from the fundamentals of stewardship to detailed discussions about site-specific issues. The workshops are tailored to address the topics of greatest importance to the wilderness area(s) managed by the office receiving the training, and for the benefit of all employees in that office.  There is no cost to the Field Office. To request a Unit Wilderness Workshop for your office, contact the Wilderness Program Lead in your State Office.

Fish and Wildlife Service

Refuge Wilderness (unit) workshops are 1 - 2 day sessions that address a variety of topics from basic wilderness awareness and the fundamentals of stewardship to agency policy and guidelines or detailed discussions about site-specific issues. The workshops are tailored for all employees of a refuge to meet the needs of the wilderness area managed by the refuge. There is no fee to attend the workshop, and the cost of presenting the workshop is generally covered by the regional office or shared between the regional office and the refuge. Forest Service

Forest (unit) workshops are 1, 2, or 3 day sessions that address a variety of topics from basic wilderness awareness and the fundamentals of stewardship to detailed discussions about the Wilderness Stewardship Performance Program or site-specific issues. The workshops are tailored to meet the needs of the forest and region and are provided free at a location identified by the forest. For more information about forest workshops contact the Carhart Center at 406-243-4682. 

National Park Service

Park (unit) workshops are 2 day sessions that address a variety of topics from basic wilderness awareness and the fundamentals of stewardship to detailed discussions about site-specific issues. The workshops are tailored for all park staff, volunteers, partners, researchers, nearby parks and invited adjacent land management agencies. Cost for the workshop is the responsibility of the requesting park.
